Blog Challenge – Day 14, 15, & 16
(note to self: do not do a 30 day challenge in the middle of school finals)
Something you are looking forward to
This post is inspired by recent events but something that I am really looking forward to is a surprise buddle of joy! NO! Not mine! But someone I am very close with. I can’t go into specifics here as it isn’t my story to tell but she is the closest thing I had to a sister. I was blessed with the news and it took everything not to scream at the top of my lungs with pure joy. Looking forward to visiting her while she goes through the different stages and hoping to be getting late night phone calls filled with weird food cravings and hormone changes. I am so happy and exited for the parents to be!
Favorite place to eat
I love dinning in general and for me to have to pick just one would be a crime. I use Open Table for many of my eating decisions along with the newest copy of a 5280 or Westword magazine. You name it, I either been there done that or it is already one my list to try. When it comes to my favorite place to eat, it would have to be any place that I feel at home; kind of like Cheers, where everyone knows your name. Maybe it’s because I am single and don’t have anyone to go home to but nothing feels better than going out for dinner and having the ability to have a personal conversation.
Something you miss
I miss having work friends to hang out with outside of work. There is no better bond than one you can create with a person you work with all day every day; then to be able to go out and release steam and have fun can make it even stronger. With my current position I am forbidden from having a relationship outside of work with those that I interact with every day. I miss having a standing Friday night happy hour or grabbing a drink after getting off my shift. I know I won’t get it with this group but maybe I could create a group, just like the 20/30 something year olds do on the Wednesday night sitcoms. You never know what the future holds…
Blog Challenge – Day 13
Your Dream Home
Gosh… at this point in life I think any house is a dream home because it is only something that I can obtain within my dreams.
I wish had a picture of my two favorite homes in Denver where I live, but after searching Google maps street view they aren’t the best pictures. (They cleaned up most of the landscaping since this photo)
I drive by them often and when I see them, all I can think about is “if only…” I think my style is colonial mixed with a little neoclassical. I used to love bungalows with the perfect porches for reading, see how you can curl up with a book on the half wall while people watching (love the little nooks) but the inside of the house is filled with tiny little boxed rooms.
Maybe it is all the Father of the Bride movies that got it in my head what the perfect house should be. Hello, have you seen that house? If you have been living under a rock, you have been missing out.
I love homes in general as they can be so stunning, just another area of architecture that I enjoy. There are a few areas of town that whenever I am not driving, I just stare out the car window admiring the beauty. I honestly could do it as a night out on the town, just going up and down each street observing all the little details that are absolutely exquisite, as least when seen through my eyes.
As for the inside, despite the style of home that I like I don’t want a crazy big place. I would have an open floor plan with hardwood floors, tall ceilings and lots of natural lighting. Think clean and modern meets warm and natural with a touch of tradition. How’s that for a description?! Ha ha! I could ramble on for hours about the specifications and accessories of the house but unless you are an interior designer I would just bore you. Now, if only I could find the money to buy this dream home…otherwise I will just have to settle for seeing it later when I my head hits the pillow and I doze off into wonderland.
Blog Challenge – Day 12
Something you want to buy
I can’t believe I am saying this but I would really like an iPad. I have never purchased an Apple product in my life; no Mac computer or iPod and of course not an iPhone. The only product I use is Quicktime and now iTunes as I got a gift card for my birthday (thanks Michael!) It’s not that I am anti-Apple, it’s just that I never had a want for it. I did debate whether to get an iPod Touch after my mother had one, but more for the applications not for the music player. Now that I have an android phone I am set on apps, but for some reason I can’t get the iPad out of my head. I was going to purchase it with some left over student aid but I keep hearing rumors about a new one coming out so I think I will wait. There was talk of version 2.5 because it only had small changes but I think with the new iPhone release the iPad 3 is looking more like next fall. I think I will wait till then… in the meantime I am thinking new snow tires for the Mercedes.
Blog Challenge – Day 11
Something you bought recently
I recently purchased an air purifier and I absolutely love it! I have a smoker in my apartment complex that causes my bedroom to smell like smoke, still unsure whether it is cigarette or pot smoke. It got so bad that I’d wake up to the foul smell. This is has made such a difference in my house! It is weird but I can really tell the difference in the air! I am actually thinking about buying another one for the living room/ kitchen area.
The UV-C and True HEPA Air Cleansing System is a complete system that provides multiple levels of cleaning including both True HEPA and UV-C light technology to enhance germ killing. The levels of cleaning of the UV-C Tower Air purifier include: Charcoal filter; which removes odors and smoke particles, True HEPA; captures 99.99% of airborne particles such as dust mites, debris, mold spores, pollens and pet dander, PCO filter; which captures and dissolves airborne bacteria, molds, fungi and volatile organic compounds while the UV-C light bulb sanitizes and kills germs that can cause cold and flu. The powerful but quiet fan quickly circulates the air in the room and is ideal for large rooms.
Blog Challenge – Day 10
Favorite Quote
There are so many that I could choose from. I don’t have just one quote but a favorite for each time and place. There are funny, sarcastic, spiritual and of course the profound.
I chose this quote below because I actually have it on a refrigerator magnet in my kitchen. My mother gave it to me many years ago and I have grown rather fond of it as I have a habit of wanting to speed through life.
For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. ~Souza

Something that I never leave the house without
If any of you know me, you know that I don’t leave the house without a duffel size bag of items. If you need anything, it’s in my purse or backpack. Floss, medical tape, safety pins, you name it; I probably have it with me. So you can understand, there isn’t just one item I can leave the house with except the keys to open the door. But if I had to pick just one thing that I can’t leave the house without, it would have to be my mental check list that I tell myself every day before walking out the door. You see, I am really good about spacing out while doing things like showering or brushing my teeth, so when it comes time to leave it is usually on auto pilot. This has caused me to be running to and from the car once or twice in the morning attempting to leave on time. But there are non critical things that you can forget and still be ok and not have to run home, like forgetting your lunch but then there are items that cause you to have to run back home and be late for work. Those are the items on my check list.
My mantra? Cell phone, deodorant and birth control. Cell phone – besides the obvious reasons, I use mine every day at work as an internet source to do my homework and studying. Deodorant – because you usually don’t keep an extra one someplace else and now a days it is really expensive to buy all the time. Birth control – if I don’t take my pill within a two hour window every day, I get the same results as women who miss theirs for two days. And if you have been reading awhile, you will know that my goal is to have it only 4 times per year. So every day before I leave the house (as my alarm on my cell phone is reminding me to do for the third time that morning) I go through my mental checklist just to avoid having to turn the car around. Yep, it’s kind of an odd list but that saying is definitely the one thing that I couldn’t leave the house without.
Blog Challenge – Day 8
My Favorite Television Show
Can I pick two or three that I kind of like? I wish could say I had a TV show that I was dying to get home for or waiting on edge for the next episode to be able to answer this question, but I don’t. In fact I am sure I could go weeks or months without watching my regular shows just as long as there was something else on the tube for me to zone out to.
The three shows I regularly enjoy watching are How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and Psych.
How I Met Your Mother – like Friends second cousin in the TV world. A group of friends, most of them single going through the trials of dating only to come up empty handed to try again another day
The Big Bang Theory – Socially awkward? Yes but this time, geeks rule! And who knew they could be funny too!
Psych – men at their finest. Acting like boys and solving crime while being hilariously witty and charming
This trio keeps me laughing during the week and hopefully you have your own group of TV shows that do the same for you!
Blog Challenge – Day 7
Something you are afraid of
This one is hard for me, because I am struggling to come up with something. I don’t have the common fears like fear of heights, small spaces, spiders, snakes or public speaking. No fear of tests, losing my job, or even dying. I do have a small fear of fear itself. Nothing like I used to but I still get the tingle of an anxiety or panic attack in certain situations but have enough control to not have one.
I guess I would have to say my fear is not being able to fulfill my long life dreams, the big ones, you know the ones that are still I the back of your mind as you grow older. For example: being able to make a difference in a person’s life or community, creating my own family with a spouse and children or even buying a house. Yes, I think those are my fears. But do they keep me up at night? No. These are long life goals and dreams meaning that I have a good 50+ years to get some of them accomplished. The slight fear that is there I think keeps me on track and motivated, reminding me of what I want in life and how much farther I have to go.
Blog Challenge – Day 6
My favorite movie

My favorite movie of all time is Singing in the Rain. I could watch it over and over any day of the week. Most people think it is one of Debbie Reynolds best movies, to me it was Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor that made the film. Reynolds never danced before then and basically pretended the entire time. O’Connor was a triple threat – signing, dancing and acting but he also was a magnificent physical comedian that no can replicate the exact same way.
And then there was Gene Kelly. Did you know that he co-directed Singing in the Rain? I think he might have been my first celebrity crush; a truly talented man as well as good looking. He was gorgeous, so masculine and hansom, rarely do you see a man like that now a days. He knew how to wear the perfect length short sleeve shirt, almost to the elbow but scrunched up to show a sneak peak of his bicep. And that butt! A fantastic firm butt, that I am sure was created from his years of dancing. Throw in those athletic dance moves and how can you not swoon.
I recommend this movie to anyone that likes a good romantic comedy. It is faster paced then other 1950’s films. Just make sure to not watch this movie with me as I tend to sing all the songs and say some of the lines. I could quote this movie all day long but as I pulled up the quotes on IMDB this one is and has always been a favorite of mine. It was actually said by Jean Hagen, playing Lina Lamont while in a middle of an argument with MGM and their decision to have someone else singing for her in the new film (click here for a video clip to hear her characters voice) “What do they think I am? Dumb or something? Why, I make more money than – than – than Calvin Coolidge! Put together!”
Blog Challenge – Day 5
Talk about your pets or pets you’d like to have
Pets, I love pets! I currently have two cats, Nicki and Hailey. These girls have been a part of my life since 2001. I grew up in a house filled with animals. There was once a time when our family household consisted of three dogs, a cat, fire belly newts and a tank of fish. In the past I have had a frog that I took from a campground, an iguana that was found in a dumpster and attempted to take home to a wild baby duck.
I have been debating off and on over the past two years on whether I should get a dog. I want one but I think the responsibility would be too much for me right now. I like that I don’t have to be home strait after work to let the dog out, that I can run to school or swing by happy hour. I think I might wait until my life feels a little more stable before jumping on that boat. Someday I hope to have a world of chaos, filled with children, dogs and cats. But for now I will stick with my two cats and the possibility of a low maintenance fish as I have been dabbling with the thought of adding a beta fighting fish for the kitchen.
